Game Spotlight: LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias

In LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias you play as Toku and his friend Enril the Wind Spirit as you traverse through a beautiful world of puzzles. While Toku is only able to walk side-to-side and up small hills, he’s able to maneuver through the world with the help of Enril’s wind. The power of wind allows you to ascend cliffs, hurl objects, make snowballs, battle denizens of the world and even turn pools of water into movable clouds.

While the original LostWinds had some control issues and spent too much time in bland indoor areas, Winter of the Melodias spends almost all it’s time in vibrant landscapes and the Wii-mote controls are much more responsive and accurate.

The graphics use vibrant colors akin to that of Mario Galaxy, while keeping a sidescrolling PoV. Game sounds blend in nicely and the background music is soothing and relaxing for your enjoyable puzzle experience.

The game’s difficulty is pretty low, I found myself briefly stuck only a handful of times, even when a puzzle wasn’t difficult, however, it was usually still fun to solve. The length of the entire adventure is a little on the short side, even for a 10 dollar game. I beat the game in under 4 hours, with most of the idols found. With that in mind the game still felt worth the 10 bux, I really enjoyed the cutesy story, pretty graphics and soothing puzzling which used some pretty unique and fun mechanics.

In the end I enjoyed the game and I would recommend it to anyone with 10 dollars to spare. It’s not a blockbuster, but if it was I wouldn’t be talking about it here.
