Heroic Rhyolith

Plaguechill has downed heroic Rhyolith!  After putting a ton of work in on the 25m version and not getting a kill, we had pretty much written this guy off for a while and were looking at other bosses.  However, after our 25m roster hit a speed bump we were forced to break into 10m teams.  After hearing about the recent changes to this encounter we decided to give it another shot and see what he was like on 10m.  After only a handful of pulls, he plopped over.

As a resto druid, I really liked this fight, especially when our resident shield queen Kitachie isn’t sniping my sexy heals.  There is a lot of movement, chaos, and the damage is perfect for hots.  Admittedly, we were a bit sour on the fight after him being such a pain in the ass on 25m (don’t say his name in front of Alcadeias), but on to the next pain in the ass…I mean boss!

Also, we are currently running 10ms but are recruiting to get our 25m going again.  We are in great need of amazing healers, so apply today!

And it begins…

Plaguechill has officially entered the firelands heroic raiding game!  Last tier after a late start to raiding we once again ended the tier as the top guild on Khadgar.  The raiding team did a great job and the officers want to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication.  The downing of Sinestra was especially satisfying.

Since the patch we have had a couple folks go casual.  Unfortunately, this meant having to drop to 10 man raiding for a week.  However, we quickly demonstrated the level of talent we have in the guild by downing 10m heroic Shannox in half of a raid night, and then making a significant dent on 10m heroic Rhyolith (we are coming for you buddy).

Next week we will likely be back on 25m and I will give more official posts for our 25m heroic kills.  Also, we have a couple raid openings for one tank, one healer, and some dps.  If you want to play with some of the best players on Khadgar and push progression content, then apply today!  Hurry before the kills pass you by.

Sinestra

Well boys and girls, the day has finally come.  Plaguechill has obtained the last realm first of the tier by downing the heroic mode only boss Sinestra on 25m.  This was a really fun and epic fight.  It is kind of a shame that most guilds will not see her until later tiers.

The fight has some fairly substantial dps checks that pretty much force you to roll with 5 healers.  This becomes especially fun when a healer goes out of commission as they drag giant purple balls around the room.  Big ups go to my homies Nazgrax and Kitachie for doing a great job handling wrack dispels.

Pretty much every aspect of the fight, tanking, healing, and dps required our raiders to dig deep and play at an extremely high level.  Everyone did an amazing job and I’m glad we don’t have to spend an entire summer on her (*cough HLK*). Probably my two favorite parts of the fight were the big number generator, essence of the red, and just seeing her big ass come out of her lava pool hot tub, itching for a fight.

Last on our hit list is the Elemental Monstrosity and we will be finished with the tier.  We are currently looking for a few good ranged dps for Firelands, so don’t let another tier pass you by; apply soon and be a part of an amazing progression oriented team.

H Cho’gall

Plaguechill has downed 25 man heroic Cho’gall!  Overall this was a very fun and intense fight.  It required a great deal of interrupts, raid coordination, interrupts, awareness, positioning, and interrupts…damn dirty interrupts.  Most of the fights this tier have a large interrupt component associated with them, but Cho’gall takes it to a new level.  Just like Nef, the adds have to be constantly interrupted, which can get tricky when one of your interrupters gets mind controlled.  However, your entire raid also has to become an interrupt machine to deal with the constant stream of mind controls.  This becomes especially important as Cho’gall hits like a truck.  A couple missed mind control interrupts + flame orders can easily one shot a tank.

The last phase was a fairly easy burn phase.  Kill tentacles, pop raid cds, and pray you down him in time.  Our entire raid team really stepped it up for this fight, but a special shout out goes to our resident Ele Shaman Raimos for doing an amazing job interrupting.

Sinestra, here we come!

H Valiona & Theralion

Plaguechill had downed heroic Valiona & Theralion!  As of writing this, that puts us back on top of progression on Khadgar, but with bad boy Cho’gall and Ascendent Council up next, anything could happen.  Overall this fight was pretty easy (ok, extremely easy compared to Nefarian and Al’akir).  The whole fight took less than a night to learn and down, and that was with a weird stream of disconnects.  Once our portal teams figured out that the pink balls were not power ups but were, in fact, swirling orbs of aoe death, the whole fight became fairly straight forward and pretty much the same as on normal.  Great job everyone, just 3 more bosses left for this tier!

H Nefarian

Plaguechill has downed 25 man heroic Nefarian!  Overall, at least as a healer, this was a pretty fun fight and definitely my favorite of this tier (so far…).  Phase 1 is fairly easy, but things can easily turn south if people get complacent (stop healing, walk in front of a dragon, hit a portal, DC…).  The real party starts during phase 2.  Each platform needs a steady stream of interrupts which, combined with the cinders mechanic, can make for some frustrating wipes.  The healers are simply praying the phase ends before they go oom and/or get three cinders all on their platform.  Phase 3, while not as chaotic as phase 2, goes on for forever.  The nice part about phase 3 is that it is fairly predictable (tons of cooldowns, add kiting, and boss spinning).  A big ups goes to Wye for kiting adds like a champ on his alt Wai (now recruiting prot warriors, apply today!!!).

With BWD cleared out, we head to BoT to finish up this tier.  Also, we have openings for a prot warrior, a druid or shaman healer, and a couple dps.  Apply now before everything is on farm!

H Al’Akir

Plaguechill has downed heroic Al’akir on 10 man!  This fight was fairly chaotic, but as with normal mode, the chaos really only lasts through p1.  Static shock was not quite as bad as we were expecting, but it quickly became deadly when paired with windburst, icestorm, squall line, and ohh I don’t know…another damn static shock!  Yes, he can really drop two static shock fields in the same damn spot, making you want to punch a kitten.  The second phase was fairly easy once we got the debuff stacks timed right, while the third phase was trivial by comparison as you just have to pray you don’t do something stupid.

We had been pondering the idea of having a 10m group tackle this fight since the mechanics of static shock make it significantly harder on 25m.  Last week we finally decided to pull the trigger and get a 10 man group to go in on an off night and kill the bastard.  We were really happy that it only took two nights to learn and down.  Thanks to all our patient PC raiders and great job to all involved.

Bear with a Bear

grumpy-bear

I am happy to introduce a new column from PC’s main druid tank, Windstrom.  Windstrom has been tanking for forever and joined PC around ICC.  He became famous for saving many a PC raid by helping us tank though out ICC including heroic Lich King.  I managed to convince Wind to write this random column for the blog, and hopefully I will squeeze many more out of him.

Now let me present Windstrom.  Today’s column will be advice for the new Cata tank!

H ODS

Plaguechill has downed the chaotic cluster F#*& known as heroic omnotron defense system!  This fight was especially fun since it pretty much changes every pull.  When we first started on the heroic encounter I thought “this is pretty cool, everyone has to really be ready for the random mechanics.”  However, that pleasant feeling quickly passed and I think we all became extremely annoyed at the RNG associated with the fight.  Certain mechanic combinations were incredibly tight and deadly, while others were fairly trivial.  Onwards and upwards!

Also we are still recruiting.  We have spots for a tank and a couple DPS.  Our healer team is fairly full, but if you are a godly healer, feel free to apply.

Better Know a Raider – DJfurball

BKR

Hello everyone and welcome to our first installment of “Better know a raider!”  We had some PC members suggest the idea and I decided I could rip off both Stephen Colbert’s “Better know a district” and one of Omegaman’s famous applicant interviews, combining them into an evil love child of complete unoriginality.  So, without further ado, I present to you Mr. Djfurball!  DJ is in fact, not currently a raider; he lives the good life of a casual.  However, he was one of the founding members of PC and our raid leader for a long while.  Plus he emailed me back, so he gets to be famous…
